
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR SEARCH
Orchard Park Chorale, located in Orchard Park NY, is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to assume the position of Artistic Director. The successful candidate will use their dynamic personality and knowledge and experience in choral conducting, ensemble management, recruitment, and audience engagement to produce exceptional concerts and grow a thriving chorus. We presently hover around 40 non-auditioned members. We hold two main concerts in addition to runout concerts in our community: “Christmas with Orchard Park Chorale” in December with hired orchestral players, and a spring concert in May with or without accompaniment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct OPC’s weekly rehearsals held on Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Program and conduct two annual concerts each season in December and May

Develop and design attractive concert programming to engage large audiences, including theme development, visual elements, and integration of guest artists.

Select and hire all soloists, section leaders, and instrumentalists

Attend board meetings and provide monthly updates and reports

Provide pre-concert and/or in-concert commentary and audience engagement

Assist the Board of Directors with fundraising efforts and marketing initiatives

Assist and advise in matters regarding venue selection, budget, concert dates, and times

Implement strategies to recruit and retain singers

Network with other arts organizations, directors, and community groups for outreach and promotion

Work with a graphic designer to create seasonal marketing and concert programs/flyers

Communicate regularly with the chorus via email about upcoming events, rehearsals, announcements, etc.

Communicate regularly with the Board of Directors, President, Accompanist, and Section Leaders.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in music with piano proficiency and conducting or teaching experience

Exceptional musicianship and conducting skills
-
Knowledge of healthy singing and vocal pedagogy
-
Knowledge and command of a broad range of choral repertoire

Knowledge and experience working with orchestras or instrumental ensembles

Ability to design concert programming that is attractive to both singers and audience members

Interest in community and youth outreach
-
Successful experience working with volunteer and professional musicians

Dynamic, energetic, and engaging personality with strong interpersonal, leadership, organization, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Masters and/or Doctoral degrees in Choral Conducting or Vocal Performance

Experience managing or directing successful community choruses
-
Non-profit experience in any capacity
-
Other skills or experience in website design, marketing, graphic design, etc.
